I have not read a Viking story for many years and this one was so very good, action packed, filled with passion and emotion and the brute force that the Vikings lived by, yes they lived hard lives but when they loved they loved. I am so excited that this is the start of a new series and that I am going to be going back to Birca later. If you love your romances to be exciting and have strong and awesome heroes and heroines than this is a book for you.
Brenna is a strong shield-maiden who had to leave the man she loved and move to Birca to become the Jarl’s wife, to meet her destiny and get closer to becoming a ruler in her own land, speaking with seers and feeling what The Gods wanted of her, this was the way to go, but when her husband is killed in a raid, and she fights like the shield-maiden she is and the people of Birca praise her, she meets up with the love of her life Vali, but the King has plans for Brenna and again she must choose.
Vali is a raider and fighter and Brenna has been the love of his life since they were growing up together, but she wants to rule and their paths go in different directions, Vali wants her badly but he knows how strong she is and that she will be a magnificent ruler to her people. When Brenna is kidnapped in another raid it is up to Vali to rescue her, but who does the rescuing?
This is a powerful and beautiful story with the brutality of the Vikings thrown in MS Nellestein has aced it so well, filled with strong and fabulous characters, Brenna knows what she wants and with the support of The Gods and the people of Birca she stands her ground and will not be a pawn in the politics of men again but will Vali give up his raiding days and stand beside her as she becomes the leader she is bound to be according to destiny.
This is one that I highly recommend, the romance and love goes deep in a world changing with the times, with the strength and belief in The Gods, these Vikings are not to be taken lightly, I am looking forward to the next one, thankyou Tanya Nellestein I loved it.
With thanks to the author for my copy to read and give and honest review.
