1423 and the war is raging between England and France, it is a hard time and Alyssa James has bought this time to life on the pages, Lady Genevieve is now eighteen and a very determined young woman who makes up her own mind about what she wants to do even if that is putting herself in danger by disguising herself and working with a healer on the battlefield, this is a story that was hard to put down.
Genevieve has kept a shameful secret for many years and marrying is not something that she will do even when she now knows how much she cares for childhood friend Sir Estienne, when they argue on the night of the coronation, Estienne has thwarted her plans before and now nothing is going to change them. Armed with letters from two ladies Genevieve arrives on the battlefield pretending to be the healer’s daughter Eve she sees things she will never forget and works tirelessly.
When Estienne recognizes her everything changes he is determined to report her to Rowan and Richard and have her sent back to England and out of danger but that is not going to happen and the passion that flares between them is hard to ignore, and then again things change when Genevieve finds herself in the hands of the French and discovers something about Estienne that she would never believe.
Estienne does everything to keep the woman he loves safe but they both end up in danger as the battle surrounds them and treachery is strong but he will never let anything happen to the woman who owns his heart while he still breathes air, but will he be able to convince her to listen to him.
I loved this book so much, it is written with passion and emotion as we get to know Genevieve and Estienne and see the love that flows between them, through turmoil and danger, and it is a book that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good medieval tale, it is written so well and really brings this era to life. A must read as is the series.
